Pandanization:
The process of evoking panda appeal and characteristics towards other species, things, and events.
My work on Pandanization started in 2015. This was part of my Master thesis in Media and Communication at Lynn University. I presented a thesis (Ignorance in the Public Sphere: The Shallow Portrayal of Biodiversity in Environmental Advertisements) in Environmental Communication that highlighted the lack of diversity showcased in environmental advertisements -- including the overexposure of pandas.
This work has been presented at the 2018 National Communication Association Conference:
"When you see tuna think panda: The use of Pandanization in Environmental Conservation Advertisements," where Pandanization is observed as a phenomenon used to portray biodiversity loss and species extinctions of a non-charismatic species-- the Tuna.
